Rt. 50 Shoulder Beautification and Restoration Project Overview

We have been working on getting the Rt. 50 shoulder beautification and restoration project organized for many months and finally may get it off the ground. We hope to organize a planting party in November or early December assuming the weather is accommodating.  A few people have asked for an overview, so I put together this Powerpoint presentation that explains the four areas on the shoulder that need different types of attention.  We will be starting with the grassy section, putting in some cedars and others plants to create a screen. We will work on the overgrown area next, but that will probably be next year.  It will likely involve clearing away the invasives from the existing trees that are good as well as planting some screening bushes.
We are looking for additional volunteers to contact WMATA and VDOT to request an improvement to the bus stop at Montague and Rt. 50 plus landscape that area. Other beautification possibilities are to work with our nearest Fairfax County neighbors, Target, Home Depot and the mall owners just over the border in Fairfax to get them to restore and landscape their shoulders too. Volunteers to start those letter writing campaigns would be appreciated.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Thanks,
